Delay By Doctor Allows Cancer To Spread In 29 Year Of Woman
Let’s consider an example of a case that never should have occurred the way it did. Unfortunately, too many doctors often assume that individuals in the 20s do not get colon cancer. In this instance, a woman complained to her doctor for five years about rectal bleeding. Yet, her doctor continuously assured her that she only had hemorrhoids. This is the all too commonly the generic diagnosis delivered by these doctors – even though they never do the tests required to identify the actual source of the bleeding. By the time the doctor ultimately advised that she get a sigmoidoscopy she was twenty nine years old and now had stage 4 colon cancer. By this point the percentage of people who are still alive for five years or more is under ten percent.
She wanted to fight the cancer with everything she had since she wished to survive for her husband and her three year old boy. She underwent surgery to remove the cancer. She then underwent chemotherapy so as to decrease the size of the tumor in her liver (the site of the metastasis) and then a second surgery to take out that tumor when it was smaller. She ad pelvic radiation treatment. Soon afterward the cancer metastasized to her lungs. Her surgeon was able to remove a tumor from one of the lungs and then she underwent even more chemotherapy to shrink the size of the tumor in the other lung. After the chemotherapy was done the surgeon then took out the tumor from the other lung.
This young wife and mother wound up with colon cancer metastasis and had to endure chemotherapy that made her extremely sick and then went through early menopause as a result of her treatment (preventing her from ever being able to have any more children) unnecessary. All because of the delay caused by her physician.
The preceeding should not be considered to be medical or legal advice. Consult a doctor without delay in the event you think you have symptoms of cancer or any health problem. Seek the advice of a medical negligence attorney should you believe your physician ignored your symptoms or otherwise heldup the detection of your cancer.
