Selecting The Best Diet – Some Advice
A lot of people have tried to go on various diets, however in the end they simply end up putting the weight they lost back on, or they find out that the diet doesn’t actually work! This may be due to you not giving the diet enough time, or because the diet you picked wasn’t right. You are going to have more success with a diet if it works with your lifestyle and goals, and if it follows some of the basic nutritional principals.
Many individuals advise that high protein meals may not always be your best option to take.
No matter which diet you end up choosing, being aware of the food you’re consuming is a must. This may not sound difficult, but it’s very easy to lose track of all the calories you consume all day long, including snacks and beverages. That’s why it’s a good idea to start a food journal, where you jot down every single item you consume, no matter how small. If you do this for even a couple of weeks, you’ll probably be surprised at all the extras that slip in. You may believe that you’re sticking to your diet, but you’re actually not counting everything. By using the food journal as a tool you’ll be helped with staying on course with your diet, or at least being aware of if you are cheating.
If the science of dieting appeals to you then you might be interested in the Volumetrics Diet. It is based on energy density foods, how filling they are compared to calories and it was founded by a nutrition professor, Barbara Rolls. If you want to lose weight you should have low density foods as these are high in volume and low in calories. Fruit and veg are examples of this. High density foods are just the opposite, and even eating small portions of such foods, such as cookies or other sweets, will add quite a few calories to your diet. The Volumetrics Diet uses categories for foods with 4 being most dense foods and 1 being least. You should try to eat as much of the first and second group as you can.
People may have to lose weight for the sake of their health if they are extremely overweight, and their doctor may say this. It’s recommended that a very low calorie diet is given for this case. This is usually defined as a diet where you consume no more than 800 calories per day, which is quite a bit less than most people are used to. Because this is quite extreme, and entails certain risks of not getting enough nutrients, this kind of diet is not usually considered suitable unless you’re under medical supervision. There are lots of side effects that you may experience if you go on this diet on your own and you may go back to over eating. Finding the best diet can definitely be confusing, however the important thing is how you approach the diet. Eating healthy foods, limiting your calorie intake and doing physical activity will ensure success on pretty much all diets. No diet will give you your desired results if you don’t follow these principals.
